Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union and a key witness in the impeachment inquiry, in a major reversal from his previous closed-door testimony, released today by House impeachment investigators, he said that he told a top Ukrainian official that nearly 400,000,000 million dollars in military aid would “likely” be held up unless the country’s government announced investigations into President Drumpf’s political rivals…
At the same revised testimony Gordon Sondland revealed that during a meeting in Warsaw, Poland at September 1st, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky raised his concerns to Mike Pence about the suspension of military aid.
Sondland, Drumpf’s ambassador to the E.U, added that he later told to top Ukrainian national security adviser Andriy Yermak, that the aid would be contingent on Drumpf’s desired investigations.
In his addendum, which was released alongside a nearly 400-page transcript of his testimony Gordon Sondland wrote:
“After that large meeting, I now recall speaking individually with Mr. Yermak, where I said that resumption of U.S. aid would likely not occur until Ukraine provided the public anti-corruption statement that we had been discussing for many weeks,”
Gordon Sondland who had a direct line to Drumpf and was a major donor to his 2016 presidential campaign, had previously indicated he was unaware of any effort to connect military aid to Drumpf’s demand for politically motivated investigations. Sondland submitted on Monday a supplemental testimony to House impeachment investigators, saying that he had failed to recall the episode with Andriy Yermak when he testified in person last month.
“I said that resumption of U.S. aid would likely not occur until Ukraine provided the public anti-corruption statement that we had been discussing for many weeks.”
Gordon Sondland in a text message to William Taylor, the top U.S. diplomat in Ukraine, eight days after privately telling Yermak that military aid was contingent on Drumpf’s desired investigations, Sondland message Willian Taylor that the President had been “crystal clear” that there was no quid pro quo involving military aid and publicly announced investigations. Sondland told investigators he was simply repeating what Drumpf had told him.
