President Drumpf Speaking today to reporters on the South Lawn of the White House, defended his call for foreign governments to interfere in the 2020 election by launching investigations into the Bidens, repeatedly claiming he is duty-bound to encourage the probes while insisting his motivations are apolitical and he reiterated that he believes that he has the authority as president to ask a foreign government to open investigations into anyone he suspects of being corrupt.
The president’s latest reaction came as Washington awoke today to news of Kurt Volker’s revelations of damaging text messages exchanged in recent months among top American diplomats.
President Drumpf told reporters today:
“This is not about politics. This is about corruption… And if you look and you read our Constitution and many other things, I have an obligation to look at corruption. I have an actual obligation and a duty. As President I have an obligation to end CORRUPTION, even if that means requesting the help of a foreign country or countries. It is done all the time,”

On a tweeter this morning Drumpf wrote: “This has NOTHING to do with politics or a political campaign against the Bidens. This does have to do with their corruption!”
On a tweet yesterday night Drumpf repeated that he has “an absolute right, perhaps even a duty to investigate, or have investigated, CORRUPTION, and that would include asking, or suggesting, other Countries to help us out!”
Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the House Intelligence Chairman responded to the above tweet from the president post, imploring his GOP colleagues to break with the president.
“It comes down to this. We’ve cut through the denials. The deflections. The nonsense… Donald Drumpf believes he can pressure a foreign nation to help him politically. It’s his ‘right.’ Every Republican in Congress has to decide: Is he right?”
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) tweeted today that the revelation of the texts marked an “important moment for our democracy… We now know that Drumpf was using access to the White House to get a foreign government to help destroy his political rival… There was an explicit quid pro quo: open an investigation into my rival, and I will invite you to the White House… it’s never been necessary to show an explicit quid pro quo,” the texts also “make it pretty clear the aid was being withheld until Zelensky chose to investigate.””
Republicans Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) tweeted today:
“When the only American citizen President Drumpf singles out for China’s investigation is his political opponent in the midst of the Democratic nomination process, it strains credulity to suggest that it is anything other than politically motivated,”
